OST After School Counselor

The Fuller Center is seeking a Part-time OST After School Counselor. This position is responsible for assisting children in reaching their highest potential through classroom-based support, homework assistance, meal service oversight, and engaging indoor and outdoor activities. Reporting to the After School Site Coordinator, this role works to maintain high quality and developmentally appropriate practices across all school-age programs.

Responsibilities
 

• Provide individualized, classroom-based support to implement comprehensive after-school and summer programming.
• Deliver age-appropriate lesson plans and activities, incorporating student input and providing opportunities for children to reflect on activities.
• Assist students with homework and implement structured interventions to support reading proficiency.
• Actively supervise children at all times, conducting head counts and roll call during transitions, bathroom/water breaks, bus loading/unloading, and off-site field trips.
• Ensure proper daily check-in/check-out procedures are followed, verifying that parents sign children in/out in blue ink with accurate times and emergency contacts.
• Maintain a clean, safe learning environment; inspect classrooms daily and immediately remove broken or damaged items to prevent injuries.
• Emphasize health, hygiene, and nutrition through visual health checks upon child arrival, handwashing/restroom guidance, and nutritional discussions during meal service.
• Apply positive guidance and discipline techniques in alignment with staff manual policies to build student self-worth and respect.
• Maintain regular communication with the After School Site Coordinator to ensure full compliance with guidelines set by Family Central, Child Care Services, Children's Services Council, and Prime Time.
• Promote family involvement, share positive updates with parents, and report any incidents or accidents immediately to the Coordinator or Family Empowerment Team.
• Attend scheduled staff meetings, participate in professional development, and perform required computer tasks.
• Provide physical assistance for all children, including children with special needs, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
 

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working with young children and families.
• Minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience delivering lesson plans, leading activities, and managing classroom behavior.
• Mandatory 45-clock-hour Introductory Child Care Training (Part I and Part II).
• Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
• Required annual training hours (25 hours annually for part-time staff; 50 hours annually for full-time staff).
• Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds and provide physical assistance for all children, including those with special needs. (Reasonable accommodations may be made for otherwise qualified persons with disabilities.)
• Schedule Availability: Ability to work flexible schedules, including part-time afternoon shifts (1:00 PM – 5:30 PM daily) and full-day program shifts (7:30 AM – 5:30 PM).

Preferred / Desired Qualifications

• Familiarity with Prime Time, Children's Services Council, or Family Central quality standards for out-of-school-time programming.
• Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with diverse children, families, and staff teams.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: $16.50 - $17.00
• Free lunch daily!
